Google's Father's Day Doodle: Robots, Coffee, and High-Fives

For Mother's Day back in May, Google moms – specifically, the "G mom" in Google's logo – got a little group hug and a flower from her two small "O" children.
So what's in store for Daddy Google today? Google's official Father's Day doodle doesn't have one of the letters sending out the other to mow the lawn or wash the car, but it's still a fun little animated tribute to all dads out there. And, yes, it involves robots.
Google FatherThe scene starts off with the "L" of Google's logo – a glasses-wearing green figure holding a newspaper – sitting on a chair. A small robot drives up and presents a cup of coffee to G-Dad, poured into a mug that says "#1" on the side.
Guess who's behind the delivery? None other than Google Dad "L's" small alphabetical child, the red "E" in Google's logo. Dad sees what's up and gives his son (or daughter!) a high-five and a hug, and the animation ends. Touching, eh?
Were we to rank Google's Father's Day doodles, the 2012 animation we just described definitely sits at the top of our list. First off, it's the first actual animation that Google's done to commemorate the day. Second, it's a lot more charming than some of Google's earlier efforts: Turning the "L" into a tie, or changing the entire logo into… ties, or drawing dad taking a nap in a hammock that connects Google's "G" and it's "L." Not a lot of heartstring-tugging on those attempts.
Curiously, it doesn't appear as if Google's has tried to use Father's Day as a launching point to describe how Google services can be used to connect families together in various ways. Mothers got their own Google blog post in May – "Celebrating our super-mom users" – that detailed out a few use cases where moms and families hung out on Google+, built robots using Chrome web apps, or catalogued recipes on YouTube.
Dads, however? Bupkis. It's alright. They're too busy watching the big game, taking a nap, or tying a tie in celebration of today to notice such things, right?
